Project Description:
The Middle East Peace Quilt is an international community art project consisting of 30 quilts made by over 300 people expressing their visions of peace in the Middle East. Participants come from all over the world, and from a variety of backgrounds, including men and women, people of all ages, Jews and Palestinians, professional artists and people new to artistic expression. The Quilt opened at the Roundhouse Community Centre in September, 1999, and has been touring North America ever since. It is available for booking. The Quilt is organized and designed by artist/coordinator Sima Elizabeth Shefrin.
Legacy:
First exhibited at the Roundhouse Community Centre September 13-28, 1999 and still touring North America. In Canada, the Quilt has visited Victoria, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Frdericton and will be on display at the Waterloo Quilt Festival in May, 2003. In the US, the Quilt has toured to Lakeland, Florida; Portland, Oregon; San Francisco, Passedena; and Los Angeles, California.
